Government Relations

The Government Relations Practice Group meets regularly to discuss (1) governmental actions that may affect BYU and (2) BYU actions that might need governmental approval or assistance.

The Government Relations Practice Group coordinates with representatives from across campus, including the following:

  • Alumni & External Relations
  • Copyright Licensing Office
  • Office of Integrity and Compliance
  • Risk Management & Safety
  • University Communications

The Government Relations Practice Group tracks legislative issues at all levels of government that might affect BYU. It also advises campus units on interactions with local, state, and federal governmental organizations, including issues of permitting, approval, compliance, contracting, and agreements.

Occasionally, the Government Relations Practice Group will prepare and submit written comments to government agencies and officials regarding proposed regulations or other government actions, and the group may also help coordinate legal representation before a governmental entity.

Any campus unit needing assistance on an issue of government relations may contact the Office of the General Counsel at (801) 422-3080 or chris_bauer@byu.edu.
